Description
ENGLAND : (1727-60) KING GEORGE II GOLD LIMA GUINEA AND HALF GUINEA PAIR- OBVERSE: Intermediate Laur head facing left, LEGEND: GEORGIUS.II. DEI. GRATIA. LIMA below bust. Toothed border. REVERSE: Crowned Quartered Shield of Arms, date separated by the crown. LETTERING: M.B.F. ET.H.REX.F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T. ET.E. The word 'Lima' below the bust signifies the origin of the gold and silver coinage mined in (Lima Peru) which was captured by Admiral Anson (A Royal Naval Officer) in 1745 during his raids on Spanish Ships carrying treasures. Finding just one of these coins is difficult as they seldom come to market. However, this could be the first time a pair has been sold together in auction! The full guinea is in a good Very Fine Condition, with reddish lustrous toning and a die flaw to the reverse lettering. The Half Guinea (the rarest of all half guineas) is in a very Close Extremely Fine Condition with minor wear to the high points. A true centre piece to any guinea & half guinea Collection.
Condition
Guinea is Good Very Fine Condition & Half Guinea is Virtually Extremely Fine Condition
