ENGLAND : (1760-1820) KING GEORGE III 1811 SILVER BANK TOKEN (EMERGENCY ISSUE). The transition to the silver token began in 1811 when the Bank of England had 3 shillings, 1 shillings and Sixpence tokens made for general circulation. This along with private mints helped alleviate the shortage of regal coinage. A change to the Gold Standard and a regular 'token' coinage was introduced in 1816 during the recoinage. This stunning example of the Eighteenpence (1 shilling and 6d) captures this spectacular moment in history perfectly! A Virtually uncirculated coin and a great talking point for collectors.
