Description
GREAT BRITAIN: (1952-Present Day) Elizabeth II Silver 1oz 2019 Coat of Arms 2 Pound Coin. Obverse: The Fifth portrait of Elizabeth II facing Right. Legend: ELIZABETH II.D.G.REG.F.D.100 POUNDS. Reverse: Crowned Shield Coat of Arms with the 'Lion of England left & the Unicorn of Scotland right. Trial Of the Pyx'. As one of the nation's longest established judicaial ceremonies (1282), the Trial of the Pyx has a fascinating history. The ceremony involves the Chancellor of the Exchequer (or nominated representative), financial leaders, Royal Mint representatives and freeman of the Worshipful Company 'The Goldsmiths Company'. The word 'Pyx' comes from the Latin word 'pyxis' or small box. Used to transport the coins throughout the year to endure a procedure that has barely changed since the reign of Henry III. Beautifully presented folder from the Royal Mint. NB This lot is protected by a hidden reserve, which if not met naturally during the pre-bidding stage will be offered for purchase in the Live Auction.
