United States America 2020 Mayflower Voyage Silver Medal. For the very first time in history, the US Mint and the British Royal Mint has come together to produced a variety of Proof Sets commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s historic voyage from Plymouth, England to the New World. The coins are struck in .999 Silver weighing 1oz each have been slabbed by NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo and benefit from one of their special labels. Obverse design features a Mayflower Pilgrim family bracing against the cold and windy weather, foreshadowing their coming hardships, while the ship is anchored in the harbour. Incuse around below, the anniversary dates 1620 - 2020. The artist's initials CTS (for Chris Costello) are in the lower left. The obverse was engraved by Renata Gordon, whose initials RG are in the lower right, in the waves below the ship. A pair of mayflower blossoms in the outer rim flank the design. Around above, the inscription A CIVIL BODY POLITICK. Around below, MAYFLOWER COMPACT. Reverse design depicts a Wampanoag man and woman employing a planting technique used to grow several crops that were staples for the Wampanoag people. This method helped keep the soil healthy, maintaining the resources for annual plantings and successful harvests. The artist's initials CTS (for Chris Costello) are in the lower left. The obverse was engraved by Michael Gaudioso, whose initials MG are in the lower right, next to the Indian woman's foot. Around above in the outer rim, the inscription SUSTAINERS OF LIFE recalls not only this sustainable planting technique but the critical skills the Wampanoag people afforded the Pilgrims by teaching them how to successfully plant and harvest the land.
