Description
GREAT BRITAIN: (1952-) Queen Elizabeth II 2019 Silver 1oz Fine Silver 'Coat of Arms' 2 Pound 'Trial Of the Pyx'. As one of the nations longest established judicaial ceremonies (1282), the Trial of the Pyx has a fascinating history. The ceremony involves the Chancellor of the Exchequer (or nominated representative), financial leaders, Royal Mint representatives and freeman of the Worshipful Company 'The Goldsmiths Company'. The word 'Pyx' comes from the Latin word 'pyxis' or small box. Used to transport the coins throughout the year to endure a procedure that has barely changed since the reign of Henry III. Coins are randomly selected, put away in the boxes ready for the testing at the trial. Beautifully presented in a folder from the Royal Mint, and the coin sealed in card. Only 6 coins are returned from the trial ceremony.
