Description
GREAT BRITAIN: (1760-1820) King George III 1820 Closed 2 Variety Gold Sovereign. Obverse: Head of George III Bust facing Right. Date below trun. Legend: GEORGIUS III D:G:BRITANNIAR:REX F:D: Reverse: St. George & Dragon. Legend Lettering: HONI.SOIT.QUI.MAL.Y.PENSE. Edge: Milled. The coin has some pleasing detail to both obverse and reverse, though has seen some circulation notably a scratch to the horses tail, in front of his forehead and below the bust. Whilst the milling has no sign of mounting or flattening, there is some wear to the outer rim which may indicate it could have been in a friendly mount. A much loved era and the Rare Closed 2 Variety. About Very Fine.
