Description
GREAT BRITAIN: (1837-1901) Queen Victoria Young Head 1877 #Die 96 London Mint Gold Half Sovereign. Fourth Young Portrait type A4, Obverse: Queen's bust facing Left. Portrait, hair ribbon now narrow & date below bust. Legend: VICTORIA DEI GRATIA . The Royal Mint London coins have obverse 4 by Marsh (1876-1880). Again the bust is increased in size as compared to earlier coins, causing the bun in the Queen's hair to almost touch the G in GRATIA and this time the wider front ribbon on the top of the head is replaced by one that matches the others in size. No designer's initials W.W. at the truncation. Reverse: In centre garnished shield quartered with the arms of England, Scotland, Ireland & surmounted with Royal Crown. Below the shield is Die number 96 Legend: BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: Edge: Milled. S3860E
