Description
ENGLAND: (1727-60) KING GEORGE II 1745 'LIMA GOLD GUINEA. 1745 (slightly smaller 5) 'Lima'- Denoting the origin of the Gold, which was captured by Admiral George Anson on his mission in South America. The Gold Lima coinage is far rarer to obtain than the Silver type, struck by the Royal Mint. Obverse: Intermediate laurete head, Legend: GEORGIUS.II.DEI.GRATIA.'LIMA' below bust. Toothed border. Reverse 4 : Crowned Quartered Shield of Arms, legend M.B.F. ET. H. H. REX. F.D. B. ET. L. D. S. R. I A. T. ET. E. edge, grained. An extremely sought after and difficult coin to find with an interesting story behind the gold! Exhibiting a stunning reddish lustre with minimal wear to the high points. The toothed border, and punchy legend gives the coin a fantastic eye appeal. The reverse has good detail and equally good eye appeal. Overall a Good Very Fine example - but one of the must-have types for any avid guinea collector.
