ENGLAND: (1685-1688) King James II Gold 1685 Guinea. Obverse: Head of King's Bust facing Left. First Laur. Bust, Legend: IACOBVS II DEI GRATIA. Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles. Edge: Milled. Finding James II coinage has always been difficult due to the short reign. Having studied this coin closely, the coin whilst having an attractive lustre and overall a good fine portrait it does have a few edge dings and test mark to the edge (as pictured). The coin has never been slabbed, so as with many of these early milled coinage it's difficult to tell if it has fallen victim to jewellery. No solder or sign of heating. A nice example for someone wishing to obtain this difficult to find coin.
