GREAT BRITAIN: (1952-2022) Queen Elizabeth II 1997 'Horse Drawn Chariot Design' Proof Gold 4-Coin Britannia Set. Britannia first appeared on a Roman coin imperial coin of the Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD), but she did not feature on English coins again until the reign of Charles II on farthings and half pennies. 1997 celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the series, and featuring the 'Horse Drawn Chariot' design. Third Portrait. Obverse: Designer is Raphael David Maklouf. Elizabeth II bust facing right. Lettering: ELIZABETH.II.DEI. GRATIA.REGINA.F.D. Reverse: Designer is Philip Nathan. In centre, the standing figure of Britannia riding in a chariot drawn by two horses, holding the reins in her right hand and a trident in her left. She is wearing a Corinthian helmet.
