Reverse: The historic reverse inspired by the Sovereigns of George IV. Centred on a royal shield of arms with a crown above, the design is the work of 19th-century engraver Jean Baptiste Merlen and first appeared on 1825 Sovereigns. 200 years on, the motif has been remastered for use on the final rose-gold Sovereigns.
