Description
RETRO / COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE: This 1936 King Edward VIII Sovereign was struck in 22ct Gold and has been hallmarked with .916 by the essay office. It was produced to bridge the gap for sovereign collectors wishing to obtain the 'Edward VIII' coin for their collection. The coin weighs 8.1 grams and 22mm in diameter, just like any other sovereign only NOT produced by the Royal Mint . Edward VIII abdicated the throne in December 10th 1936 to marry the love of his life 'Wallis Simpson' a divorcee actress. There was much controversy surrounding their relationship and Wallis was denied a Royal title by King George VI whilst Edward took the 'Duke of Windsor' title.
