Description
RHODESIA (1964-1970) Queen Elizabeth II Proof Gold 10 Shilling. One Year Type - On 11th November 1965, Rhodesia was declared by Prime Minister Ian Smith to be an independent Dominion. This led to sanctions being imposed by both the British Commonwealth & the United Nations, as the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) was not recognized as legitimate. In 1966, the 'rebel' Rhodesian Government decided to issue a set of Gold Coins to commemorate the First Anniversary of the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI). Now known as Zimbabwe. Obverse: Crowned bust of Elizabeth II facing right. Legend: ELIZABETH THE SECOND. (Arnold Machin designer) Reverse: Designer is Tommy Sassen. In centre a Sable antelope with date either side 1966. Legend lettering: RHODESIA TEN SHILLINGS. Edge: Milled. The coin itself is in a good Extremely Fine condition and is presented with original case of issue and outer box not pictured.
