GREAT BRITAIN: (1910-1936) King George V 1916 Canada Mint Sovereign. Obverse: Head of George V Head Bust facing Left. Legend: GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D. IND:IMP: Reverse: St. George and Dragon with Date below exergue line & the letters B.P. to the Right .'C' above in ground. Edge: Milled. This is the first time this hughly desirable coin has been offered at Coins of the Realm Auctions and it's reputation as the 'chief coin of the world' was gained for it's accuracy and reliability. The Ottawa Mint, Canada was set up after gold was discovered in the Yudon territory in 1900 and Sovereigns were produced from 1908 as one of the Branch Mints of the British Empire. Only 6,199 coins were produced for 1916 Canada and rarely are they offered for sale. Recent sales of these include : The Royal Mint by ballot 2024- MS62 £30,000, Sovereign Rarities MS63 £37,500, The Coin Cabinet £27,000 MS63 (March 2022), Heritage Auctions $31,725 MS63 (2017).
