SAMOA ISLANDS: 1991 RA EXPEDITIONS 2-COIN PROOF SET- The Ra Expeditions RA I and RA II were organized and led by Norwegian Scientist, Dr Thor Heyderdahl to prove something not exclusively of the past but also the present and the future. To share his journey , he hand picked men from many nations, colours and creeds; to demonstrate that such differences do not prevent amicable co-operation for survival and harmonious living in a cramped space with hardly enough elbow-room. On the 17th May 1969 with a crew of seven men and after 55 days of westward sea-voyage, RA met its sad, watery grave just 600 nautical miles east of Barbados. They were only a few heart-rending days beyond reach of their goal. The set comprises of two coins - Gold .916 Fine Gold Proof and 1oz Silver Coin 925 Fine Silver.
