ENGLAND: (1760-1820) King George III 1813 Military Guinea. OBVERSE: Sixth Laurel Head facing right. Lettering GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA . REVERSE: Crowned shield in Garter, Legend : BRITANNIARUM REX FIDEI DEFENSOR: HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE on garter Date 1813. The 1813 One year type Guinea was struck to pay Wellington's army during the Peninsula War, as gold was the only currency locally accepted. 80,000 Coins were produced struck from gold like the Indian Mohur and Pagoda coins. Many have been melted down over time and few remain in such high quality. This beautiful example has a reddish lustre and is in Near Extremely Fine Condition. A truly stunning coin.
